Mortal Kombat 1 is the latest reboot of the long-running fighting game franchise by NetherRealm Studios. It is the first console game from the studio since 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11 and seems to be expanding on virtually everything from the previous title. The gameplay is as brutal and bloody as ever, with trailers requiring an age gate on YouTube.
A Brief Introduction to Mortal Kombat 1
Contrary to its name, Mortal Kombat 1 is not the inaugural game in the Mortal Kombat series. The “1” in the title signifies that it is a reboot of the game’s storyline. Set after the events of Mortal Kombat 11 and the Aftermath expansion, Fire God Liu Kang creates a new universe. However, when a familiar threat emerges, he must assemble fighters from different realms to protect their reality.
The roster includes iconic characters such as Johnny Cage, Raiden, Mileena, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Tanya. Additionally, there will be multiple Kameo Fighters available to provide assistance during battles. The initial set of downloadable content (DLC) fighters will feature Peacemaker, Homelander, and Omni-Man.
Similar to recent Mortal Kombat titles, Mortal Kombat 1 will offer a story mode along with online and offline multiplayer options.
